Spot UV (ultra violet) is a technique in printing where spots or particular portions of a business card or any other print materials like brochure, flier, book cover, etc. are treated with glossy coating. The Spot UV does not affect the color of the graphics or texts that are being treated color. Instead, this process only makes that particular portion slightly raised and shiny relative to the non-glossy business card stock. For example, if you want to put a spot UV coating on your logo, the color of the logo does not change when treated but will only become shiny and slightly raised. Spot UV is less complicated than other processes such as embossing where alignment must be very concise. With Spot UV, the application of the gloss can be lined up precisely against any ink-based design element, no matter how complicated your graphic elements are. Since you actually make the spot glossy or shiny in this process, it only means that spot UV only works on silk or matt laminate and other non-glossy card stock. Putting a spot UV on a glossy card stock will not have a visible effect since everything is already glossy.
